Veteran DJ/producer Anjay is known for his flawless mixes and hypnotic rhythms.
After 20 years of immersing himself in several genres, Anjay's sound has matured into deep and driving territory. He crafts a melodic journey through deep, mesmerising grooves with monumental, sometimes claustrophobic, breakdowns.
There's no surprise that Anjay’s first musical obsession was 80s synthpop (think Guru Josh, New Order, Depeche Mode) – sounds that would come back to influence his productions. Then, while travelling in Germany, Anjay was introduced to early hip hop, and the combination of these early inspirations would later lead to a long affinity with nu skool breaks.
This accidental DJ started his career drunkenly mixing jungle records at the wrong speed, calling his new sound “dark breakbeat”. Things escalated quickly though and before long, Anjay had regular residencies at legendary Canberra nightspot, Heaven, and other clubs in the capital and interstate.
Anjay began crafting his own music in 1999 with his tracks “Not in our name” and “Teenage idol” rated highly by Hybrid and Triple J Unearthed.
The Canberra-based producer’s 20 year music career has seen him collaborate with and support some of the biggest names on the electronic scene, including The Crystal Method, Sasha, Danny Howells, Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrim and Tayo.
Anjay’s latest album 'Consciousness' is available on CD from Landspeed Records.
